from the Youth Director... As I was growing up I always wanted write and report for a Newspaper. If I were doing that now I might write about Spring Practice on the University of Tennessee Campus or I might write about the latest Britney Spears scandal. Most people seem to be interested in things like these. Just turn to your local stations and look at the obsession with sports and celebrities! I have to admit that I often find myself as one of the obsessed fans when it come to sports, but I am a little tired of hearing about just sports and celebrities. What about the people, especially young people, making a difference where they live that are never seen on any news programs? That is what I want to briefly write about now. As many of us know, spring break is upon us. Most people who know about spring break trips know that it can be one big party. However, what you don’t hear about is the spring break ministries that go on. In South Padre Island, Texas, a ministry called Beach Reach ministers to the “partiers” in the town. They provide transportation to those in need, hand out water, and do general service evangelism. They have the potential to reach over 50,000 college kids in the spring break season. There are other organizations such as Fellowship of Christian Athletes that are on High School Campuses all over the country that are reaching kids in the public high schools. Last month the group’s web site listed 762 faith commitments. Another Ministry that is sure to have an impact is the upcoming Franklin Graham Festival. This ministry has gone all over the world telling people about Jesus. And last, right here in our own Youth group at GBC, the students are reaching out in their own way. I hear stories of these kids sharing their faith and wanting to live their lives in true faith. One of the students is hosting an exchange student from Germany for three weeks. Things are happening for God here and around the country and world. But you won’t hear a thing about that in the media. Let’s get the “word” out! In Christ, David Ogle
